What is the Utah Volleyball Officiating Academy?

Established in 1998, the Utah Volleyball Officiating Academy is a non-profit organization developed to promote volleyball officiating at all levels in the Intermountain area (Utah and southern Idaho). These levels include beginning, recreation, USA Volleyball (USAV), AAU, junior high school, high school and collegiate.

The Academy board is comprised of officials with several years of officiating experience at all levels as well as many who have served as chairpersons for various boards, served in important coordinator positions or have held a number of other highly respected and influential positions to the betterment of the sport of volleyball.

A variety of training and clinics will be offered through out the course of the year covering rules and mechanics for R1 and R2 officials, line judges and score keepers.

Upon completion of the six hour classroom and on court training, officials will be eligible to be rated at a specified tournament for the different levels of II, III, IV, and V.

Why was the Utah Volleyball Officiating Academy Formed?

Participation and performance in the sport of volleyball (college, high school, USAV, AAU, etc) has exploded through out the Intermountain area in the past few years. As participation and performance have increased, the demand for experienced officials has escalated. The need for instructional clinics for the development of new and veteran volleyball officials is evident. The Utah Volleyball Officiating Academy board is committed to assisting in the development of competent volleyball officials, training of new and veteran officials and providing a system that certifies levels of competence in volleyball officiating.
